Legend Area – Honoring Those Who Came Before Us

The Legend Area is a space of remembrance, respect, and gratitude. It is dedicated to honoring individuals who are no longer with us but whose time, talent, leadership, and love for Weequahic Park helped shape the foundation of our work and the community we serve.

These individuals gave selflessly—through mentorship, volunteerism, advocacy, service, and quiet acts of care—to ensure that youth had safe places to play, families had welcoming spaces to gather, and the park remained a source of pride for South Newark. Their contributions live on in every program, every restored space, and every young person inspired by their example.

The Legend Area preserves their stories so they are never forgotten. It stands as a reminder that community progress is built on the shoulders of those who came before us, and that legacy is measured not by recognition, but by impact.
