Cynthia was someone whose kindness showed itself through action. We were introduced to her during her service as Chief of Staff to John James of Newark’s South Ward.

During the summer months, Cynthia donated water to support the children participating in the summer camp, allowing them to learn entrepreneurship by selling water as a simple, community-based business model. Her generosity created both opportunity and encouragement for young people to understand responsibility, teamwork, and self-confidence.

Beyond the summer program, Cynthia consistently supported those in need by donating food to individuals and families, helping to organize community-led assistance for fire victims, and contributing to children’s movie nights that provided safe, joyful spaces for youth and families. She often donated juice, bookbags, and tickets to shows, ensuring children had access to both essential items and meaningful experiences.

Cynthia also played a vital role in bridging the gap between the community and the Councilman’s office, fostering trust, respect, and open communication. She ensured community voices were heard while promoting mutual understanding, accountability, and collaboration between residents and local government.

Her thoughtfulness continued through her contribution to the Tulip Memorial Garden in honor of her late husband, as well as through her mentorship and guidance to WPSA leadership. Cynthia was also a dedicated advocate for kidney disease awareness, a cause deeply personal to her, as she lived with the condition herself. She used her voice, experience, and compassion to raise awareness and support others facing similar challenges.

Cynthia’s legacy lives on through her service, generosity, advocacy, and the many lives she touched with grace, empathy, and purpose.
