Pop-Up Foam Fun Run Brings Joy to Feldman Middleton Dr. Community Center
Newark, NJ – July 15, 2025What started as a simple summer day turned into an unforgettable surprise for local youth, as the Weequahic Park Sports Authority Conservancy (WPSAC) hosted a Pop-Up Foam Fun Run at the Feldman Middleton Dr. Community Center. This spontaneous event transformed the center’s splash pad area into a sea of foam, laughter, and energy, creating a perfect mid-summer memory for campers and local children.
As part of WPSAC’s ongoing efforts to offer safe, engaging recreational activities, the foam run was designed not just as a playful diversion, but as a “practice fun run” encouraging movement, teamwork, and community participation. Children raced through layers of foam while splashing, playing, and laughing with their peers under the summer sun. The event embodied WPSAC’s mission: promoting active lifestyles and positive community engagement for Newark’s youth.
Douglas Freeman, WPSAC President, shared, "We wanted to give the kids something unexpected, a joyful surprise. Moments like this are what summer memories are made of."
WPSAC staff and volunteers set up the foam zone early in the morning, surprising many children as they arrived for their regular activities. The event was fully staffed for safety, with both volunteers and program leaders guiding the foam-filled fun while encouraging hydration and movement.
Why Pop-Up Events Matter: Pop-up events like this are part of WPSAC’s strategy to keep summer exciting, while teaching youth to embrace physical activity in creative, non-traditional ways. From foam races to flag football training, WPSAC works year-round to bring fresh, interactive programs to Weequahic Park and surrounding community spaces.
Looking Ahead: Following the success of the July 15 Pop-Up Foam Fun Run, WPSAC plans to host more surprise activations this summer at both Weequahic Park and local partner sites. Families are encouraged to stay connected via weequahicpark.com and social media for updates on future pop-up events, open recreation sessions, and community initiatives.
