The Weequahic Park Kite Event
"Bringing Families & Children Together For A Fun and Friendly Event."
The Weequahic Park Kite Event is a community-friendly event designed to bring families together with resources for their children. The event started in the spring of 2013 by the Weequahic Park Sports Authority; a Conservancy member organization with the County of Essex.
Each year the goal is to increase the availability of resources and information to be disseminated to the families, such as summer enrichment programs and camps, availability to the breakfast and lunch distribution sites, family emergency services, and other much-needed information.
The manner in which the goal of the kite is accomplished is to request local residents, businesses, and elected officials to help by sponsoring the kites for the children.
The first event started with 100 kites and grew each year into what is today known as a family full fun day in the community.
For this year's event, the goal is to supply 10,000 kites to any children who come into Weequahic Park and wants to simply fly a kite.
Due to the restrictions and limitation of the gathering rules of large crowds, the event will be a distribution format; families are encouraged to preregister in advance by signing up online at Register for the kite event
